Is Big Walk on Mac? Requirements and versions
Yes, Big Walk runs on Mac through Steam and the Mac App Store. Check macOS, Apple Silicon and RAM requirements, crossplay, saves and Join Codes.

Quick answer
Yes. Big Walk is officially available on Mac through Steam and as a separate Mac App Store purchase. The Steam build needs macOS 15, an Apple Silicon M1 or newer and 16 GB of RAM; Steam recommends an M3 or newer. Apple lists macOS 12 or later for the standalone App Store build. Both can crossplay with Windows, PS5 and Switch 2, but App Store players always join with a Join Code because that build has no Game Center friends list.

Steam or the Mac App Store?
Mac owners have two official versions. Steam sells one purchase that includes the macOS build alongside Windows. Apple also sells a separate build through the Mac App Store.
The important difference is joining. The official FAQ says the Mac App Store version does not support Game Center, so it cannot show a platform friends list. Those players use the host’s Join Code instead. The Steam version can show Steam friends and can also use a code whenever the group is split across platforms.
The stores are separate. Buying on Steam does not grant the Mac App Store build, and buying from Apple does not add the game to Steam.
Big Walk Mac requirements
The requirements depend on which store you use. Steam lists macOS 15, an Apple Silicon M1 or newer and 16 GB of memory as its minimum. The recommended Steam row keeps macOS 15 and 16 GB but raises the processor to an M3 or newer.
Apple’s separate Mac App Store listing says macOS 12 or later. It does not publish the same processor and RAM table on the store page, so do not automatically apply Steam’s macOS 15 line to that version. Check the compatibility message shown on your Mac before buying.
For Steam, an Intel Mac is outside the published requirement and an 8 GB Apple Silicon Mac sits below the 16 GB minimum even if the chip is new enough. Players report mixed results on low-memory MacBooks, so launching is not the same as meeting the supported specification.
- Steam OS — macOS 15 or newer
- Steam processor minimum — Apple M1 or newer
- Steam processor recommended — Apple M3 or newer
- Steam memory — 16 GB at both tiers
- Mac App Store OS — macOS 12 or newer
Mac crossplay and saves
Mac is not separated from the other versions. House House confirms crossplay across Steam, the Mac App Store, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. A mixed group joins the host with the short Join Code and the password chosen for that session.
Progress belongs to the host rather than to every player. If the Mac owner hosts, that Mac keeps the save and must host again when the group continues. Crossplay moves players between platforms; it does not transfer the world save to a different host.
Mac-specific checks before your first session
macOS asks for microphone permission per application. If the Microphone Activity meter stays flat, open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, choose Microphone and enable Big Walk. A working microphone is unusually important here because communication is part of the puzzle design.
The official FAQ also documents an Xbox wireless controller issue on Mac through Steam. It recommends Bluetooth rather than a direct USB-C connection, enabling Increase Compatibility in a controller profile for Steam, granting Steam Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions, and enabling Steam Input with the default Big Walk profile.
Frequently asked
Can you play Big Walk on Mac?
Yes. It is sold for Mac through Steam and as a separate Mac App Store purchase.
Does Big Walk work on Intel Mac?
Not through the supported Steam configuration, which requires an Apple Silicon M1 or newer. The Mac App Store page only states macOS 12 or later and does not publish a processor table, so check the compatibility message on the exact Mac before purchasing.
Can an 8 GB MacBook run Big Walk?
It is below Steam’s official 16 GB minimum, and performance reports are mixed. The separate Mac App Store listing does not publish a RAM requirement on its product page.
Can Mac and PS5 play Big Walk together?
Yes. Big Walk supports crossplay; the Mac player enters the PS5 host’s Join Code and session password.
Why can’t I see friends in the Mac App Store version?
That build does not support Game Center. Use the Join Code shown in the host’s Session Details instead.
Does Big Walk run on macOS 14?
The Steam build lists macOS 15 as its minimum. The separate Mac App Store build lists macOS 12 or later, so macOS 14 meets that store listing’s operating-system line.
