Big Walk Red Tower: unlock the Map Room
Complete the five Big Walk Red Tower puzzles, shape the released key at every cutter and open the Map Room for the map, compass and Big View.

Quick answer
Bring five nearby puzzle rewards to the slots at the top of the Red Tower. Take the key that appears, then follow the marked cutter route and use every key-cutting station in order. The fully shaped key opens the blue Map Room near the starting area, where your group gets the large island model, a portable map and a compass. If the door rejects the key, the usual cause is a missed cutter rather than a missing puzzle.

Where the Red Tower and Map Room are
From the opening area, move uphill into the first wide region beyond the drawbridge. The Red Tower is the tall objective on the hill; the blue Map Room entrance and its long stairs sit nearby. You can find both long before you can open the door.
Treat the tower and the room as one route. The tower holds the five-slot objective and releases the unfinished key. The Map Room is the destination for that key after it has been shaped.
Find five rewards before solving the door
The panel at the top of the Red Tower needs five physical puzzle rewards. Search the compact area around the tower instead of walking to the far side of the island. Each successful challenge releases one reward that must be carried back and placed in an empty tower slot.
Community walkthroughs use names such as Green Room, Yellow Maze, Train Station Cannon, Basketball Court and Mountain Gesture. Those labels are useful landmarks, not official names. The official FAQ says some world details adapt to the host’s 2-player, 3-player or 4-plus setting, so follow what your active puzzle shows rather than copying another party’s exact role count.
- Count filled tower slots, not puzzles your group remembers visiting.
- Leave one player near the tower while others search the nearby cluster.
- Carry each released reward back before starting another long route.
- If a challenge is inaccessible, the host can enable challenge skipping from the accessibility settings.
A reliable role setup for the five challenges
Most failures come from two people changing the same mechanism while a third person describes the result. Assign one observer, one operator and one carrier. The observer describes only visible state, the operator changes one input, and the carrier keeps the reward from being left behind.
For sound, symbol and gesture rooms, agree on reading direction before anyone calls an answer. World-size variants can alter who sees or reaches each part, but precise descriptions and one change at a time work across every layout.
Fill the Red Tower and collect the unfinished key
Place one reward in each of the five slots at the top. When the set is complete, the tower releases a key. Do not take that first version straight to the Map Room: it is deliberately unfinished.
If the key does not appear, inspect every slot and check the surrounding floor for a reward somebody dropped. The live Map Room checklist is not available yet, so the tower panel is your source of truth at this stage.
Shape the key at every cutter
Insert the unfinished key into the first marked cutting station, then follow the route indicated by the cutter markers. Each station changes the key again. Continue until the marked sequence leads back toward the Map Room.
A partly shaped key can look finished while still failing at the door. If the Map Room does nothing, return to the last cutter you remember using and walk the marked sequence again. Re-solving the five puzzles will not repair a missed cutting step.
What opening the Map Room gives you
Use the finished key at the blue Map Room entrance. Inside is a large physical model of the island, a portable fold-out map and a compass. Entering also unlocks the Big View achievement.
The model is more than scenery. Blue flags show completed puzzle sites, while a reward lying sideways shows a puzzle that was solved but whose reward has not been delivered. That makes the room the best progress tracker for the rest of the game.
Take the portable map and compass before leaving. Later coordinate puzzles, including 4166, 1899, are designed around the grid on that map or the separate GPS device.
If the Map Room door will not open
Check the route in this order: five filled tower slots, key collected, every cutter used, then the correct blue Map Room entrance. Restarting the session should be the last step, because the host save records completed puzzles automatically.
- Key never appeared: recount the five Red Tower slots.
- Key appears blank or simple: start the marked cutter route.
- Key changed but the door rejects it: one cutter was probably missed.
- Door opened but no map is visible: make sure the group entered the Map Room rather than another blue tunnel.

Hint: the tower reward is not ready for the doorShow a hint
When the fifth slot is filled, watch what the markers around the released key point toward. The key has to change before the Map Room accepts it.
Full Red Tower and Map Room routeShow the full solution
Complete five nearby challenges and carry all five rewards to the slots at the top of the Red Tower. Collect the released unfinished key, put it through every marked key cutter in sequence, then take the fully shaped key to the blue Map Room entrance near the starting area. Inside, collect the portable map and compass and use the large island model to track completed and undelivered puzzles.
Frequently asked
How do you unlock the Map Room in Big Walk?
Place five puzzle rewards in the Red Tower, collect its key, use every marked key cutter and take the finished key to the blue Map Room entrance.
How many Red Tower puzzles are there?
The tower needs five rewards. Community names for the nearby challenges vary, and individual roles can adapt to the host’s world-size setting.
Why does the Red Tower key not open the door?
The released key starts unfinished. Follow the marked route and put it through every cutter; a partly shaped key will still be rejected.
What is inside the Big Walk Map Room?
A large island model that tracks puzzle state, a portable fold-out map and a compass. Entering also unlocks Big View.
Do you need the Map Room for the 4166, 1899 puzzle?
You need either the portable map from this room or the GPS device near the Green Tower. The map route is the most direct introduction to coordinates.
Can you skip a Red Tower challenge?
Yes if the host enabled challenge skipping in the accessibility menu. The official FAQ says any inaccessible challenge can be skipped.
