Big Walk Controller Not Working on Mac: Xbox Fix
Fix an Xbox, PlayStation or Bluetooth controller that Big Walk does not detect on Mac by checking the official Steam Input and macOS connection steps.
House House documents controller troubleshooting in the official FAQ. The exact Steam Input choice can depend on the controller, so test the official sequence before reinstalling the game.
Do this first
For an Xbox wireless controller on Mac, connect through Bluetooth rather than USB-C. In System Settings > Game Controllers, create a Steam profile for the controller and turn on Increase Compatibility. Then allow Steam under Privacy & Security > Accessibility and Input Monitoring, and enable Steam Input with Big Walk’s default controller profile. Disconnect other gamepads while testing.
Is this your problem?
- Big Walk ignores an Xbox or PlayStation controller on Mac
- The controller works in Steam but not after the game opens
- Buttons show the wrong prompts or two inputs fire at once
- The controller stopped working after a Bluetooth reconnect
Reconnect the controller before changing the game
Quit Big Walk completely and test the controller at controllertest.io as the official FAQ suggests. Disconnect other peripherals so a second input cannot conflict with it.
For the reported Xbox wireless controller problem on Mac, use Bluetooth rather than a direct USB-C connection. In System Settings > Game Controllers > Xbox Wireless Controller, create a profile for Steam and turn on Increase Compatibility.
Give Steam permission, then enable Steam Input
In System Settings > Privacy & Security, add Steam to both Accessibility and Input Monitoring. Restart Steam after changing those permissions so macOS applies them cleanly.
Then open Steam Library > Big Walk > Properties > Controller and enable Steam Input with the default controller profile. Launch the game and test movement from the title screen.
Change only this one setting between launches. If you change the Bluetooth pair, Steam Input and a remapping profile at once, a successful test will not tell you which change fixed it.
Disconnect duplicate devices and remapping software
Unplug other controllers, virtual gamepads and controller-remapping tools while testing. Two devices presenting the same physical controller can create doubled buttons, wrong prompts or an input that disappears when the game chooses the other entry.
Once one controller works by itself, reconnect other devices one at a time.
If Big Walk still does not see the controller
Restart Steam and macOS with the controller already connected, then repeat the single-device test. Check the official FAQ again before assuming an older post’s Steam Input choice still applies.
If the controller works in another Steam game on the same Mac but not in Big Walk after the official sequence, report the controller model, connection type, macOS version and game version to House House. Those details turn a generic failure into a reproducible report.
Frequently asked
Does Big Walk support controller on Mac?
Yes, but Steam Input and Bluetooth state can affect detection. Use the official FAQ sequence and test with one connected controller.
Why does my Xbox controller work in Steam but not Big Walk?
The per-game Steam Input setting or a duplicate virtual controller can be the difference. Test Big Walk’s Controller property with extra devices and remapping apps disconnected.
Should I reinstall Big Walk to fix a controller?
Not first. Reconnect the device, verify it in Steam, test the game’s Steam Input setting and remove duplicate inputs before reinstalling.
